We believe that — for your company or organization’s functionality —  it is important to curate, cultivate and maintain the working relationships your employees have with one another, which is why team building is so important.

For that reason, here at New Quest, we look at team-building exercises for your employees that they will undoubtedly enjoy as well as strengthening the working relationships with their fellow peers.

Here are five team building activities that you and your organization can do in Kamloops and the surrounding area.

1. Scavenger hunts

Scavenger hunts are an excellent way to build team relationships, develop communication skills and build trust with employees. As such, scavenger hunts are best done in small groups so that each team has a higher chance of getting to know each other better and move quicker during the hunt.

Smaller scavenger hunt groups will also force teams to rely on each other to break down the task and work towards a common goal, rather than an individual one, which can be translated back to working together in an office setting.

2. Escape rooms

Escape rooms are games where teams work together to discover clues, solve puzzles, and do tasks together in one or more rooms. The goal is to complete the tasks in a specific amount of time and to eventually escape from the room where the game is being played.

Not only are escape rooms fun, but they build team bonding, force communication among team members and teach members to think outside the box to solve problems.

Lastly, escape rooms encourage building teamwork that extends beyond the activity as members can look back on the game as a way of creating bonds and trust that are applicable in a work setting.

3. Indoor Climbing

This unique team building activity is a true experiential team activity during which your team will:

• Experience working together as a team outside the workplace and build camaraderie.
• Identify team, leadership and workplace dynamics; surface patterns of trust, communication and problem-solving.
• Discuss how your experience relates to the workplace and how you can use these insights to strengthen the team.
• At an individual level, participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves in a fun, safe and inspiring team environment.

All climbing equipment will be supplied by the local climbing gym.

This is a wonderful, safe and fun team building activity that will have an immediate and positive impact on building a high-function team.

4. Understand your Personality Type using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) Assessment

One of our most popular team building activities where we leverage personality type to help your team function better. Our experiential approach to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator uses the personal insights gained from this classic personality type assessment coupled with eye-opening and engaging activities to yield powerful new insights at the individual and team levels.

To collaborate effectively, especially under pressure, team members need to understand each other and appreciate personal differences. Teamwork is part of any successful endeavor or project. Conflict, misunderstandings, and confusion can make team work more difficult directly impacting productivity. Some teams share similar traits, while others struggle with differences. No matter what your team looks like, it will have strengths and weaknesses. Converting these differences from a source of team conflict or low productivity to a source of team strength dramatically increases the productivity of the team.

5. Cooking classes

Cooking classes are a fun and interactive way to get employees involved, alert and acquainted with one another through the art of food.

Cooking in teams develops collaboration skills and is a great opportunity to form bonds with colleagues you might not otherwise could do in a workplace setting.

In addition to a little friendly competition and skill testing, your colleagues will also get to eat delicious food through corporate cooking classes.
